VVA Pupils celebrate Diwali.. Festival of Lights...

The Pre-Primary pupils of Vidya Vikas Academy celebrated Diwali with great joy and enthusiasm. The celebration and significance of the festival was explained and discussed with the children at a special assembly held at the school campus on 20th October to mark these festivities.
A small skit on Ramayana depicting Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya amidst ‘Diyas’ ‘lights’ were enacted by Jr.KG A & C students. Tr.Marisa and Tr.Loreta were the co-ordinators.

International Day for Older Persons Celebrated

Vidya Vikas Academy conducted a special assembly for classes 1 to 4 on 7th October to commemorate International Day for Older Persons.
The significance of this day was read out. A skit show cased how apathetic the youth can be. This was followed by a prayer service especially for the Elders.
Our school decided, to celebrate this Day with grandparents of our students, from classes 1 to 4. The Principal Dr. Alan Rodrigues, send out special invites, inviting the paternal and maternal grandparents, of these students. The grandparents were overjoyed and gave an overwhelming response. Hence we celebrated, this special day for two consecutive days – October 10th and 11th.
That evening the grandparents were welcomed by our Principal, refreshments like tea and snacks were also served. The most emotional moment was to see, the grandchildren presenting, handmade cards and flowers. The grandchildren were happy to compere the acts in the show. It began with a prayer song, later the entertainment programme like skit, dance, poems, mando, golden oldies in English, Portuguese and Konkani were performed. Some students shared their memorable moments. Some spot games were conducted and prizes were awarded.
Our students learnt to have, genuine desire to respect and be compassionate towards their grandparents and all Elder’s. Tr. Betsy co-ordinated the programme.

Maths Quiz Held

Maths Quiz was held for classes 1 to 5 on the 17th October 2011 at the V.V.A Hall. The questions were based on the regular syllabus and each round consisted of many activities. There were three groups and each group had five students (one from each division). Group A won the first prize, while group B won the second.

VVA wishes R.G. Kare on his Birthday

Principal, Vice-Principal, some of the staff members along with some students of Vidya Vikas Academy visited Shri R. G. Kare, President of Vidya Vikas Mandal to wish him on his Birthday, 18th October.
The staff members and students presented a bouquet of flowers on behalf of all the staff and students of VVA. The pupils expressed their love, respect and appreciation by presenting a card made by the pupils themselves. Students also sang songs, performed a dance and expressed their joy.

Debates held for Classes 9 and 10

Saturday 15th October witnessed a lively debate between students of Class 10 and 9. The proposition was 'Sex Education Should Not Be taught in School'.
Class 9 defeated the proposition valiantly but wer out numbered by Class 10. The winning team included Tahira Menezes, Valeska Faleiro, Aaron Alphonsus, Armando Alvares, Sachi Angle, Anjali Mascarenhas, Shorya Chaturvedi, Oliver D'Mello, Candice Rodrigues, Neha Alphonso.
Class 9 A and 9 B were represented by Sagorika Mazumdar, Naitik Jain, Karen Pereira, Savia Gonsalves, Jude Sales, Sarojini Fernandes, Sailee Prabhudesai, Oslen Vaz, Rochwyn Rodrigues, Kelsener Fernandes.
Tr. Andrea judged the merits of their arguments. Tr. Pamela Torcato co-ordinated the event.

Pre-Primary Kids Celebrate Dussehra

The Pre-Primary kids of Vidya Vikas Academy conducted a special assembly to celebrate Dussehra with a special festive spirit. The children were very excited as they depicted the splendor, the rituals and the splashes of vivid colour through their ‘Garba’ and ‘Dandiya’ dances.
The highlight was the burning of the effigy of ‘Ravana’ to show that good always wins over the evil. Tr. Catrin and Tr. Suela of the Pre-Primary co-ordinated the special assembly.

WORLD ELDERS DAY CELEBRATED

Vidya Vikas Academy in association with Lions Club of Margao, Service Trust, celebrated World Elders Day on 01st October 2011, at the G. R. Kare Auditorium, Margao.
The celebrations began with a prayer for the Senior Citizens, said by Mr. Kurade. The senior citizens also viewed a display of old artifacts and photographs of people, particularly of Margao.

The Senior Citizens presented a folk dance and a song – a lively performance which was appreciated by the children and the audience present.
The children along with the Senior Citizens played some games which facilitated a greater understanding and co-operation between the two age groups besides being a lot of fun. The children then performed a dance trained by Tr. Reshma; while children of Class 6 and 7 from the Choral Group presented a melodious rendition of old popular songs in Konkani, English and Portuguese. The students were trained by Mrs. Archana Dias and accompanied on the guitar by Mr. Neil D’Cruz.
The children and the Senior Citizens then joined hands together in a circle as they sang together ‘You will never grow old”.


The Senior Citizens were over whelmed with emotion and were very appreciative of the efforts of the Principal, Dr. Alan Rodrigues, Staff and Students of Vidya Vikas Academy, Mrs. Grace Kare and Dr. Celso Fernandes of Lions Club. They also hoped for many more such opportunities to interact with the students. Mrs. Velia De Souza and Mrs. Archana Verma assisted with arrangements for the programme.

VVA participates in the Shakespeare Festival at Chowgule College

Students of Vidya Vikas Academy were invited by Chowgule College of Arts & Science, Margao to participate in The Shakespeare Festival 2011, on 1st October. This festival is in its second year of production.
Graham Alphonsus won the first place in the Elocution Event - "Friends, Romans, Countrymen" on the topic on the topic "Blake as a poet." Daniel Ferreira Alvares won second place in the Soliloquy event with his rendition of Jacques' Seven Stages of Man from As You Like It. Sagorika Mazumdar recited Wordsworth's "Daffodils' (The Bard). In "Steal -A - Scene from Shakespeare", our students performed an abridged version of Act I from As You Like It.
Oliver De Mello (10A), Naitik Jain (9A), Sagorika Mazumdar (9A), Kinjal Vernekar (9A), Jude Sales (9A), Karthika Pai Vernekar (9 B), Daniel Ferreira Alvares (8B) and Tarun Mascarenhas(8A) performed their roles enthusiastically. Teacher Pamela Torcato trianed and accompanied the students. Appreciate Karen Pereira and Savia Gonsalves for their assistance.

Gandhi Jayanti Celebrated

As a part of Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations, Vidya Vikas Academy, Margao organised cleanliness drive on 1st October 2011in the Vidya Vikas Mandal's Educational Complex to commemorate Gandhiji on his Birth Aniversary celebrated on 02nd October every year.
Students of Classes 6 to 10 were involved in this drive along with teachers and support staff. The objective of the drive was to make the students aware and conscious of keeping their surroundings clean and hence helping mother nature, keeping in mind that the children will build the future world in the years to come. This will help them live in harmony with nature. Tr. Sofia was incharge of the Cleanliness Drive.
The Pre-Primary section of Vidya Vikas Academy also conducted a special assembly to mark the Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations. The Pre-Primary teachers narrated to the pupils the importance of the day and also some of the life instances of Gandhiji, the Father of Our Nation.

VVA Staff, Students attend TERI-DEMPO Workshop

TERI in association with Dempo organized a Training Workshop on “Project Management” about bringing in change in Climate in your community on 30th September 2011 at Dempo House, Panjim. Teacher, Mr. Sarvadnya Sambari of Vidya Vikas Academy, along with two students of class 8, Miss Atashia Gonsalves and Miss Vidhi Jain attended this workshop.
The workshop was basically about how to plan activities to bring in a change in our environment. It helped the students to understand, how to present their ideas and information in order to convince team members to carry out an activity or a project. The resource person of the workshop, Ms. Shabana Kazi also stated that one needs to be well organized and allot different jobs to different people in a systematic manner. She also stated that we, the future generation can make our environment an eco-friendly place by adopting environment friendly methods. The students were very much excited and enthusiastic to practice some of the methods that were explained to them, to bring in change in themselves and in the environment.

Story Telling Competition Held

Story Telling Competition was held for Classes 1 to 5 of Vidya Vikas Academy in the month of September. All the students were given an opportunity to narrate a story in their own classroom. The best were selected and the final round of story telling competition was held on 28th September 2011 in the School Hall.
This competition helped the children to express themselves through narration, also to improve their vocabulary, diction and voice modulation. This was also a big confidence booster, to be able to speak infront of audience and judges. Tr. Andrea was the co-ordinator for this activity.

International Peace Day Held

A special Assembly was conducted on 21st September 2011 by the students of class 3 and class 4 of Vidya Vikas Academy to commemorate International Peace Day. The main theme of the assembly was to promote peace and harmony in the community and the world.
The students began the assembly with a Sanskrit prayer song. Later the students showcased a variety programme through skits, poetry and slogans on Peace. Posters on Peace made by the primary students were also displayed. Tr. Usha co-ordinated the assembly.

The Big Fight . . .

Inter class debates were held on 19th September 2011 for class 8 and on the 26th of September 2011 for class 7 in the School Hall. Pupils were given their topics a week in advance to prepare and plan out their arguments. The topic for class 8 was “There should be reservations for the minority classes” and for class 7, “Pupils should be allowed to bring electronic gadgets to school.” Both the opposing teams put up a good fight but the winners had their points well organized. The judges were Tr. Joemila, Tr. Carol and Tr. Shefali.
Class 8B and Class 7B were declared the winners respectively. Tr. Carla Quadros was the co-ordinator for the event.

VVA Excels at Mathematics Quiz

All Goa Mathematics Teachers’ Association (AGMTA) in collaboration with State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) conducted All Goa Mathematics Quiz for school students of Classes 8, 9 and 10 in all talukas of Goa. Students of Vidya Vikas Academy, Julian D’Costa (Class 8), Karthika Pai Vernekar (Class 9) and Shorya Chaturvedi (Class 10) participated at the Taluka Level Quiz held at M & N English High School on 20th September 2011, secured 2nd place and qualified for the State Level Quiz. There were around 20 schools which participated at the Taluka Level.
The State Level Quiz was held at GVM’s Almeida High School, Ponda on 27th September 2011. There were 27 teams from different schools all over Goa who had qualified for the Taluka Level. Vidya Vikas Academy students cleared the preliminary written round and qualified for the on stage rounds along with four other teams. Julian, Karthika and Shorya gave a tough fight to all the other teams and secured first place. Tr. Anju Anand was the co-ordinator for this quiz.

VVA Students Win G.K Quiz

Students of Vidya Vikas Academy, Master Julian D'Costa and Master Tarun Mascarenhas of Class 8 participated at the Annual G.K Quiz organised by Bhatikar Model English High School, Margao on 17th September 2011. Around 20 schools participated in the Quiz. Julian and Tarun gave a tough fight and secured first place.
The students were awarded with a rolling trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 1000. Tr. Sheetal was the teacher in-charge while Tr. Mitzie accompanied the students.

Pre-Primary Kids Celebrate Rainbow Day

The Pre-Primary kids of Vidya Vikas Academy had a special assembly on 16th September to celebrate Rainbow Day. Tr. Michelle conducted this assembly. The students came dressed in rainbow coloured clothes.
The teacher explained to students the formation of the rainbow colours and the kids sang the rainbow song. The activity for the day was sandwich making where the students learn to make yummy delightful sandwiches and enjoyed eating them.

Mathematicians of the Day - Maths Quiz Held

A mathematics quiz was conducted for the pupils of classes 9th and 10th of VVA on 17th September 2011 in the School Hall. All pupils were given a chance to participate in the written preliminary round. Three students from each division of classes 9th and 10th made it to the finals.

In the final round, there were 3 teams, each team consisting of two pupils each from class 9 and class 10. The final round was an oral round. It was a brain storming session making it difficult for the audience till the last minute to judge the winner. Master Aaron Alphonsus(10 B), Master Eric Mesquita (10 A), Miss. Karen Pereira (9 A), Master Chirag Narvekar(9 A) won the quiz.
Miss. Savia Gonsalves and Master Judes Sales maintained the scores.Tr. Shaefali was the quizmaster while Tr. Anju was the co-ordinator for the quiz.

'HINDI DIWAS' Celebrated

The pupils of Vidya Vikas Academy conducted a special assembly to celebrate 'HINDI DIWAS' on September 14th 2011. On this day, Hindi was declared official language unanimously by the Constitutional Assembly in the year 1949 and since then, 14th September is celebrated as 'Hindi Day'.
Master Adnan of class 8 spoke on the occasion and highlighted on the importance of Hindi language, also the National Language of India. Students of Class 1 sang Hindi poems and songs. Hindi Teachers co-ordinated the assembly.
Tr. Archana Verma also attended a one day seminar on 'Hindi Diwas' held at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.

ASSET QUIZ HELD FOR TEACHERS

The Asset Ambassador Team conducted a Quiz for Teachers of Vidya Vikas Academy on 07th September 2011 on account of Teachers’ Day Celebration. To quiz was held in the VVA Hall. Each team had one teacher and one student each from classes 8 to 10. They had to answer a written preliminary elimination round. This round was based on the questions framed by the Asset Team and sent to the Asset Ambassadors. Five out of six teams were chosen for the final round. The teams were : 8A, 8B, 9A, 10A and 10B. Tr. Sandra, Tr. Anju, Tr. Sheetal, Tr. Pamela, Tr. Joble and Tr. Vichye participated along with students, Tarun, Kenneth, Jude, Shorya, Aaron and Karthika.

The teams that qualified for the final rounds had a tough fight. The first round was a direct objective round, while the 2nd and 3rd were the buzzer rounds. The teams performed with a lot of jest and enthusiasm. Tr. Joble and Master Aaron of class 10B won the quiz.
The Asset Ambassadors had a great time organizing the quiz. Julian D’Costa (class 8)and Sagorika Mazumdar (class 9) were the quiz masters. Kareen Moraes (class 7), Mallaika Alphonsus (class 5) and Astrid Gracias (class 6) maintained the scores. The quiz was a great success!!!

Unified Cyber Olympiad - 2011 Held

A Scientifically Designed Skill Based Assessment Test (Cyber Olympiad) was held on 07th Sept. in the school. Forty-Six students from classes 3 to 8 answered the Exam. Students were tested on Mental Ability, Reasoning, Computers and English.

The Assesment Test provides an opportunity for all students to gain a measure of their own achievement in external assessment situation. The results will be available at http://www.unifiedcouncil.com/ on 7:10:2011.

'THANK YOU TEACHER' - A Students' Presentation

It was indeed a truly touching and memorable teacher’s day celebrations by the pupils of classes 1 to 5 on September 09th and classes 6 to 10 on September 10th. The Pre-Primary also had their Teachers’ Day celebrations on September 09th.
As always, VVA pupils rose to the occasion and presented beautiful and touching programme showcasing their talents and expressing their love and gratitude for their teachers.
It made us teachers proud to see that they have imbibed so much from their school and their teachers to complement the cultures and values, ‘Sanskar’ which much come from every home.
Also touching was the numerous ex-students who came back to wish their teachers on this day.
Thank You Dear Children, our prayers and best wishes will always be with you.

Vaibhavi honoured by V. M. Salgaocar Foundation

Manager of Vidya Vikas Academy Smt. Sheela H. N. Gaunekar along with Principal Dr. Alan Rodrigues & Staff members attended a function organised by V. M. Salgaocar Foundation held at the Grand Ball Room of GOA MARRIOTT RESORT, Miramar on 22nd August at 5.30 pm to felicitate the Top Ranked Students of Class 10 of the Goa Board and ICSE Examination held in March 2011.
The Speaker of Goa Legislative Assembly, Shri Pratapsingh Rane was the Chief Guest for the function. Also present at the ceremony were brothers Shivanand and Dattaraj Salgaocar, trustees of the Foundation. Shivanand delivered the welcome address while Dattaraj proposed the vote of thanks.
Vaibhavi Prabhudesai from Vidya Vikas Academy, Margao received the cash Award, a merit certificate and two books published by the Foundation for standing first at the ICSE Examination, March 2011.

Eid Mubarak/Happy Ganesh Chaturthi

Festivals from a child’s point of view means fun, feasts, presents, new clothes, dancing, singing, rituals, blessings and happiness.
The Pre-Primary and Primary kids of Vidya Vikas Academy had a special assembly to celebrate the festivals of ‘Eid – ul –Fitr’ and ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ with great joy and enthusiasm enacting both the tradition and the festivities.
The students participated with great fervor and joy in their hearts to celebrate Eid. The students enacted a small skit expressing the importance of the festival and recited NAMAZ and prayer song devoted to ‘Allah’. Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated for 21 days in the month of September, 1st and 2nd September being the main days of the festival. The students performed Ganesh Pooja and recited Aarti. A student enacted as Lord Ganesh and the story of Lord Ganesh was read out.
The students distributed sweets as a part of this festival. The mood and atmosphere at VVA was very festive and blissful. We at VVA wish you all ‘Eid Mubarak’ and a happy ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’.

Sports Minister visits VVA

Vidya Vikas Academy was honoured to have Shri. Manohar (Babu) Azgaonkar, hon'ble Minister for Sports, Govt. of Goa on 20th August. He was accompanied by Shri. V. P. Rao, IAS Officer, Shri. R. G. Kare, President of Vidya VIkas Mandal, Shri. Ganesh Daivajna, Vice President of Vidya Vikas Mandal, Smt. Sheela Gaunekar, Manager of the School and Dr. Alan Rodrigues, Principal of the School. On his visit, he was very much delighted to see the greenery at the campus and well maintained infrastructure of the school. He also appreciated the efforts put in by the Management to provide the state of the art facilities to the youth.
Earlier in the day he was the Chief Guest at the Founders Day Celebrations of Vidya Vikas Mandal at the G. R. Kare Auditorium.

VVA participates in Spelling Bee Contest

Our senior students did us proud at the Annual Inter-School Spelling Bee Competition, organized by Manovikas School. In category 3 for the Classes VIII – X, which was held on 19th August 2011, Julian D’Costa (8 A) won the first place with a gold medal and a cash prize of Rs. 2000. Jude Sales (9A) stood third, winning a bronze medal and a cash prize of Rs. 1000. Karthika Pai Vernekar (9B) was the third contestant who helped the school to take the second place overall.

In the Category II for classes 6 and 7, which was held on 18th August 2011, Kurt Figueiredo, Keenan Cardozo and Raunak Kamat participated. Though they did not win, they put up a strong fight.
In Category I, Esha Dhuri, Gaven Fernandes and Trisha Naik of Class 5 also participated and stood fourth in this category. They contested against 9 other schools. All the students got a wonderful opportunity to show case their talents. English Teachers, Mrs. Pamela Torcato, Mrs. Carla Quadros and Mrs. Andrea D'Costa accompanied the students.

Pre-Primary celebrates 'Krishna Janmashtami'

The Pre-Primary Students celebrated Janmashtami at a special assembly held with great excitement and fervor on 19th August 2011. The children were very much enthusiastic as the pre-primary consultant Mrs. Enny D’Souza narrated the story of Lord Krishna to them.
Tr. Loreta also discussed the importance of the celebrations. The highlight of the day was the ‘Breaking of the Dahi Handi’ and the children’s participation in singing the famous ‘Govinda Ala re’.

International Youth Day - Special Assemby held

A special assembly was conducted at Vidya Vikas Academy to mark the International Youth Day on 12th August 2011. The importance of this day was highlighted by the students as they presented a skit and put forth the concerns of the Youth and the activities they get involved in.

The students also mentioned that the Youth is the greatest strength in today's global world. The students had a prayer service invoking Gods blessings for the youth to guide them in their life. Tr.Joemila Colaco co-ordinated the assembly.

Resource Room Children visit Caculo Mall

Resource Room children of Vidya Vikas Academy visited Caculo Mall on 9th August 2011 The Marketing Executive Miss. Pranali Shah and Mr.Micky gave our children a tour of the mall. Our children were given the opportunity to play in the “Time Zone” which they enjoyed very much.

Later they were served lunch at the food court. Authorities at Caculo Mall were kind enough to sponsor the food and games. Tr.Mamtha, Tr.Tanula & Tr.Pooja accompanied the students.

Independence Day - A Report

India’s Independence Day was celebrated with great fervour and patriotism at Vidya Vikas Academy on 15th August 2011. The Management Members, Principal, Staff, Students & Parents attended the function in large numbers. Mr. & Mrs. Dilip Kare, were the Chief Guest. The Tri-Colour was unfurled at the hands of Mr. Dilip Kare and the National Anthem was sung. The Chief Guest was accompanied by the Principal and Vice-Principal.
Mrs. Pamela Torcato introduced the Guests, while the students presented a bouquet of flowers to them.
The students put up a wonderful programme. Some of the items were a patriotic song, a group dance, speeches in Hindi and also sang some National songs. Mrs. Grace Kare made an inspiring speech on the occasion. She highlighted some of the thoughts and visions of the former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, for today’s youth.
An art exhibition was also put up by the students on the theme Nature at Its Best. Students, parents and the Guest were seen appreciating the posters.

Mrs. Satya Sharma who was the co-ordinator for the function compered the function and proposed the vote of thanks. Teacher Rona was co-incharge for the function. Later on, sweets were distributed to the students and parents.
On this day our students also participated in the inter-school Patriotic Singing Competition organised by Lions Club of Margao, at the G.R. Kare Auditorium.
The Pre-Primary section of VVA also had a special assembly on 12th August 2011 to mark India’s Independence Day. Teacher Marisa spoke to the students about the significance of the day, respect for the National Anthem and the National Flag. The children sang patriotic songs and remembered our great National leaders.

Scrabble Workshop Conducted

The Scrabble Workshop was conducted by Mr. Gonsalves and his team of Goa Scrabble Association in association with Vidya Vikas Academy on 13th August 2011 at the G. R. Kare Auditorium. This programme was sponsored by Goa Sudharop chaired by Mr. Ibonio D’Souza. Principal Alan Rodrigues addressed the participating schools on this occasion. President of Vidya Vikas Mandal, Shri. R. G Kare was also present on the occasion.
Four Schools took part in this workshop, namely Manovikas High School, Loyola High School, Fatima Convent High School and the Littles Primary School.
All the teams made an remarkable effort to play this game, however VVA was at the highest ranking. Mrs. Evrida Jacques was the co-ordinator for this event.

Raksha Bandhan Celebrated With Gaiety

The Resource Room children were seen busy making Rakhis in the month of August and finally the day has come. Rakshabandhan - reaffirming the sibling bond where sisters tie a decorated thread, or rakhi on their brothers' wrist, was celebrated on Saturday, 13th August 2011 at Vidya Vikas Academy with much gaiety and colour.
The pre-primary pupils also conducted a special assembly to celebrate the festival, tied Rakhi’s and enjoyed themselves. The children were also explained the importance of the day. The assembly was conducted by Teacher Adlyn Luis.

Workshop on Business Journalism Held

Vidya Vikas Academy in association with Vision Education Society organized a Workshop on Business Journalism for the pupils of class 9 on 06th August, 2011 at the VVA Hall. The Chief Guest for the function was Dr. Hubert Gomes, a renowned dental surgeon in Margao. Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Mr. Savio Coutinho, Ex-Chairperson of Margao Municipal Council, Mrs. Beena Naik, Senior Lecturer, RMS Hr. Sec. School and Ms. Remediana Dias, Chairperson of Vision Education Society.
The function started with an invocation song, lighting of the lamp and followed by a welcome address by the Principal of the School, Dr, Alan Rodrigues. The Chief Guest, Dr. Hubert Gomes in his address to the students said that Journalism is a field where students should focus on as it is a highly paid profession like that of a doctor or an engineer and iterated that it was very challenging profession. Mrs. Beena Naik and Savio Coutinho were also of the same opinion and stressed on freedom to express ones thoughts in a democratic country like India. Mrs. Beena Naik also said that media is a powerful weapon which can bring in the change in today’s youth and the society. Ms. Remediana Dias in her speech spoke about the various programmes conducted by Vision Education Society.
The resource person for the workshop, Mrs. Wendy Pereira who is associated with Times of India and Mr. Adrian, an expert in Business Journalism gave interesting facts about Business Journalism and conducted a group activity. The children found this workshop very interesting, specially the activities in which they showcased their talents through charts and drawings. Mrs. Carla Quadros, Teacher of Vidya Vikas Academy proposed the vote of thanks.

Inter Class Football - Class 6

The first match at the Inter Class Football Tournament of class 6 A/B/C Boys was played between 6A and 6B on 6th August, 2011. Master Sejal and Master Charles of class 6A scored 2 goals while Master Jason of class 6B scored 4 goals. In all, 6A scored 2 goals while 6B scored 4 goals and won the match.
In the second match played between 6A and 6C, Master Charles of 6A scored 2 goals, Master Yash scored 2 goals while Master Sejal scored 2 goals. While from 6B Master Keenen and Master Tanish scored 1 goal each. In all, 6C scored 2 goals, while 6 A scored 5 goals and won the match.
The final match played between 6B and 6C was a draw. Thus 6B won the 1st Place with 4 points, 6A won the 2nd Place with 3 points while 6C won third Place with 1 point.
In the Inter Class Football Match between 6A/B/C girls, all the 3 matches ended in a draw. After which the penalty shootout were held. The matches were really interesting as children enjoyed playing even though there were heavy rains. Staff members and other students of class 6 were seen cheering the players. P.E teachers and Sports Director were in-charge of the matches held.

VVA Script Selected for All India Drama Festival

Our School participated in the All India Inter-School Drama Festival 2011 celebrating Rabindranath Tagore's 150th Birth Aniversary. It was conducted by the Central School of Speech and Drama, suppoted by the British Council.

Jude Sales (9 A) wrote the winning script - a one act play based on Tagore Story 'Shiburam'. We have now been invited to participate in the Drama Festival to be held in September in Kolkatta. Other students who also submitted their scripts were Karen Pereira, Sagorika Mazumdar, Karthika Pai Vernekar and Sarojini Fernandes. Mrs. Pamela Torcato, English Teacher and school co-ordinator for this event guided the students.

Students Visit Caculo Mall

As a part of Commercial Applications Project, our pupils of Class 9 visited Caculo Mall and had an interactive session with Mr.Shashank Mahatme, Vice-President, Head, Caculo Mall & New Ventures to understand the operation of a Mall on July 19th, 2011.
Mr. Shashank Mahatme in a simple way explained the working of a Mall. The children had a very enjoyable experience as they visited different shops in the Mall finding different details required for thei project. Tr. Reshma, Commercial Applications teacher was the co-ordinator and accompanied the students.

Inter School Table-Tennis Tournament Held

Students of Vidya Vikas Academy participated in the Taluka Level Table-Tennis U 14 and U 17 Tournament organized by Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, Govt. of Goa, on 21st July 2011 held at Multipurpose Hall, PNJ Stadium, Fatorda. The participants U 14 were Jason Furtado, Vianney Furtado, Sahil Omanakuttan, Tarun Mascarenhas and Archit Hegde.
U 14 category VVA won the matches played against Our Lady of Rosary High School, Fatorda and Loyola HS, Margao. However finished at the Runners Up position against Manovikas High School.
The participants for the U 17 team were Kenneth D’Silva, Julian D’Costa, Juniad Shaik, Sairaj Phaldessai and Saiesh Karwarker. They played against Mahila Nutan High School, however couldnot make it to the second round.
PE.Teacher Siddu Phaldessai was the co-ordinator and accompanied the students.

Inter Class Football Match - Report

Class 8 A v/s 8 B and 7 A v/s 7 B of Vidya Vikas Academy had an Inter Class Boys Football match at the School Ground on 16th July 2011.
8 A v/s 8 B
In the 1st half the score was 4 all. At the finish of the second half the score was 6 all. In the penalty shootout, class 8 A managed to score 1 goal while class 8 B scored 2 goals and won the match. The scorers from Class 8 B were: Gaurav FalDesai, Kenny Gonsalves and Parth Dhulapkar while the scorers of Class 8 A were: Lionel Dias, Vianney Furtado, Bashid Chauhan, Aaron D’Souza.
7 A v/s 7 B
In the 1st half the score was 5 all while at the finish of the second half the score remained the same. In the extra time both the teams scored two goals each while in the penalty shootout also class 7A and 7 B managed to score 3 goals making a tough fight to win. Team 7 A got the opportunity to make a golden goal and thus won the match 11-10.
The scorers from Class 7 A were: Bosco Fernandes, Blaine Alvares, Ravnil Gad, Raunak Bhembre, and Yeshwant Tuenkar while the scorers from Class 7 B were : Jossel Antao, Sahil Kuttan, Sarthak Desai, Rajmohan Desai, and Aisher Fernandes.
Since there were no enough numbers to make up the girls team, the girls match was cancelled. Boys from Classes 7 and 8 were excited to play the match though there were incessant rains. P.E Teachers conducted the match successfully.

Monsson Hike - Witnessing Nature at its Best

Vidya Vikas Academy organised a monsoon hike on Friday, 15th July 2011. The buses were loaded with excited kids from classes 6 to 10, who were singing all the way to Padi, Canacona. There were around 20 teachers who accompanied the students.
The students and teachers together, walked over hillocks, on muddy roads, gushing water and pouring rain. Midway students took a breather to gulp down some snacks and then continued on the journey that concluded at the top of a hill with clear water flowing from a stream.
All we could see around was lush green mountains covered with mist and happy faces of excited children playing in the sparkling water. We boarded our buses wet and tired but having thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The heavy rains were a fitting end to this most enjoyable hike.

Guru Poornima - Special assembly held

Students of Class 5, conducted a special assembly at the VVA Hall to mark the Guru Poornima celebrations on 15th July 2011. This festival is traditionally celebrated on the full moon day of the Ashadh Month (June-July) of the Hindu Calendar. The festival is dedicated to teachers to express gratitude by his/her desciple.
On this occasion, Miss Siya Ghodge of Class 5, read a prayer and narrated a story dedicated to teachers. Mast. Hritik Raikar and his friends gave flowers to the Principal, Vice-Principal, and other Senior Teachers who were present on the occasion. Later, the Principal addressed the gathering and gave blessings to the students and advised the students to respect their teachers and elders and be good citizens of the society.
Tr. Satya Sharma, co-ordinator for this programme proposed the vote of thanks.

Wealth Out of Waste - Activity Held

The wealth out of waste activity encouraged the children to explore their creativity –wall hangings, musical instruments, photo frames, show piece were some of the wealth produced from waste. The activity was conducted for classes 1 to 5 as an activity for the month of June.
The children worked diligently and learnt to find some usefulness for the things that would have been wasted. The co-coordinator for the activity was Ms. Shilpa Sukumaran.

Art Exhibition Held

Students of Class 6 and 7 were introduced to stylized form of art where in they create form by distorting forms, perspertive images and use unusual colour schemes. In this style they are allowed to be break free from following rigid rules of design and explore.
The result – Beautiful images and colour schemes on display in the form of a small exhibition in the school campus on 9th July 2011.

In another activity students of Class 3, 4, & 5 used various vegetables such as onions, potatoes and Lady’s fingers and used them as stamps to create various floral patterns on paper. The class rooms were turned into art studios. The students thoroughly enjoyed this activity.
Mrs. Hema Cacodcar, Art teacher was the co-ordinator for these activities.

Phonetics Workshop Conducted for Parents

At the specific request from parents and keen interest shown by them in developing their children's reading skills, a program on phonic reading was held, in the school hall on 09th July 2011. The session was conducted by Ms. Enny D'Souza, Pre-Primary Consultant and Teachers, Ms. Leena Rebello, Ms. Sunita D'Souza, Ms. Catrin Cruz, Ms. Michelle Mascarenhas and Ms. Marissa Fernandes. The parents found this workshop very interesting and useful for their children.

Inter Class Football Match

Students of class 9 A and 9 B of Vidya Vikas Academy had an inter class football match at the School Ground on 09th July 2011.
Boys: In the 1st half the score was 2-2 as Rochwyn Rodrigues of Class 9 B scored two goals while Royce Fernandes and Deloy Alvares of Class 9A scored one goal each. At the finish of the second half the score was 3 all. In the penalty shootout, class 9 A managed to score 3 goals while class 9 B scored 4 goals and won the match.

Girls:In the 1st half the score was 0-3 as Marissa Heredia of Class 9 B scored 3 goals. At the finish of the second half the score was 2-6. Sasha Gomes of Class 9 A scored 2 goals while Delilah Furtado scored one goal and Marissa Heredia scored two goals for 9 B and won the match.
Both Boys and Girls were excited to play the match while teachers were seen cheering them up. P.E Teachers, Ms. Balika Phaldesai, Mr. Siddharth Faldesai, and Mr OmanaKuttan G were incharge of the match, while Mr. Neil D'Cruz was the match refree.

My Environment, My Responsibility . . . . . A TERI DEMPO PROJECT

Students of Vidya Vikas Academy actively participated in an Inter School Competition Cum Exhibition held at Dempo House Panjim on 8 th July 2011.The programme was initiated by Mr.Kulkarni who gave the welcome speech.Mrs Pallavi Dempo,Trustee, Dempo Charities Trust was the guest of honour. Ms Shabana Kazi spoke about Teri (The Energy and Resources Institute) and briefed the students about the days programme.Siya Ghodge, Ajay Naik and Arya Lotlikar of class 5 participated in the Poster competition based on the theme Goa for me! guided by Art teacher Mrs. Hema Cacodcar. Carrieann Furtado and Hazel Fernandes of class 6 participated in the Model making competition based on the theme Alternate technologies for a sustainable future guided by Mrs. Calorina Rodrigues. Nicole Baracho,Tania Durado and Isabel De Souza of class 7 participated in the story writing competition based on the theme My Goa …..My Environment! guided by English Teacher Mrs. Carla Quadros. Kenneth Da’Silva, Sagorika Mazumdar, Royce Fernandes and Shorya Chaturvedhi from class (8-10) participated in the Power Point Presentation competition based on the theme My Environment….My Responsibility! guided by Computer Teacher Mr. Sarvadnya Sambari.
The pupils were thrilled to interact with Ms. Pallavi Dempo who was gracious to spend time about their project.
The students had a fruitful day at Panjim and gained an insight on Goa’s environment viewing through Power point presentation, posters and models and listening to stories written by various students.
Ms. Shaefali Lendhay and Mr. Sarvadnya Sambari of Vidya Vikas Academy are the project co-ordinators for this TERI - DEMPO Initiative who also accompanied the students for this competition.
