PRE-PRIMARY SPORTS FESTIVAL HELD
The pre-primary section of Vidya Vikas Academy held their sports festival on 18th December 2010. Christmas being just around the corner, the theme was Christmas Spirit. Rev. Fr. Antonio D'Silva, Principal of Pilar Central School, Pilar was the Chief Guest. He unfurled the school flag and marked the pre-primary sports festival "OPEN".
The races and drills were all organised based on the Christmas symbol. The highlight of the event was the march past by the tiny tots bearing their pre-primary motto "Tiny Feet and Big Impresions" followed by their class mottos.
It was a fun filled evening enjoyed by both the students and their parents.

The mini sports for classes 4 and class 5 were conducted on 20th December 2010. All the students actively participated with great enthusiasm. Parents were seen cheering their children.
There was a team spirit seen amonh the students. Some of the games played by students of class 4 were : Students in Action for class 4 A, Obstacle Race for class 4 B, Caterpillers Spin for class 4C and a game Bhul Bhullaiya was a common one played by children of all the divisions of class 4. Games for class 5 were : Obstacle Race for clas 5 A, One leg hop and back running for class 5 B, Both leg hop with the ball and one leg hop witht he ball in hand for class 5 C and Multi skills was a common game played by students of all the divisions of class 5.
The appriciation and claps from their parents made the children proud of themselves.TERI – DEMPO CLIMATE CHANGE AWARENESS PROJECT
Dempo Group of Companies in association with TERI-The Energy & Resource Institute has organised a Climate Change awareness programme for Goan School Children to mark the 75th Birth Anniversary of Late Shri. Vasudeva V. Dempo, the founder leader of the Dempo Group of Companies.
The next workshop was the CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP which was held at the same venue on 26th November 2010. Eight students along with Ms. Shaefali Lendhay and Mr. Sarvadnya Sambari attended the same.
Dr. Pachauri highlighted on the effects and gave stress on how industries and business leaders can bring in change in environment and make this planet a beautiful place to live for the generations to come. In his remarks he said “Climate Change is a symptom, of a much larger problem. Many species and water bodies are migrating to other habitats; many are facing threat while some others have become extinct”
He also congratulated Dempo Group for a good initiative taken to involve school children as they can make impressionable actions to bring in positive change in the environment. Giving the mantra to the people he iterated that rules and regulations are not just enough, one need institutions and organizations which will enforce these rules. Making an appeal to the business leaders he concluded with these remarks “produce in right way and consume in a right way”.
On this occasion an INITIATION WORKSHOP was held at the Conference Hall of Dempo House, Panjim – Goa on 8th September 2010. Some of the activities include workshops for teachers, various competitions for students like poster making, story writing, etc., field trips for teachers and students and webpage development on the awareness of climate change which will be carried out till end of year 2012. The main objective of this programme will be creating awareness on key climate change issues.
The next workshop was the CAPACITY BUILDING WORKSHOP which was held at the same venue on 26th November 2010. Eight students along with Ms. Shaefali Lendhay and Mr. Sarvadnya Sambari attended the same.Ms. Shabani Kazi of TERI gave a presentation, and spoke to students about the difference between the weather and climate. She touched upon several issues like climate change, global warming, ice ages, green house effects, mitigation and adaptation. Ms Akshata Samant, lecturer, also shared her experiences on Environment Education teaching in schools. The last session taken by Mr. Clinton Vaz, demonstrated to students what happens if we do not segregate home waste.
As a part of this joint project, DEMPO-TERI organised, Late Vasudeva V Sinai Dempo Memorial Lecture, by Dr. R. K. Pachauri, Nobel Prize Winner, Eminent Climate Scientist & Director General, TERI on Bringing Respect for Nature in Economic Development on 15th December 2010 at Marriotts Beach Resort, Panjim Goa.

As a part of the above project, VVA has organised a waste collection drive from 4th December to 15th December in the school premises. The students are asked to bring in used plastic bottles, newspapers, used dry batteries, tetra packs to school and put them in different labelled bins. This programme is organised by VVA to bring awareness among students that most things that they throw out in their dustbins in their houses can be recycled. By doing this they can reduce the harmful waste that goes from their home garbage bins to landfill areas. Ms. Shaefali Lendhay and Mr. Sarvadnya Sambari of Vidya Vikas Academy are the staff co-ordinators for this project.
Goa Liberation Day Celebrated
49th Goa Liberation Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and with the feeling of patriotism at Vidya Vikas Academy on 19th December 2010.
The function began with the unfurling of the Tricolour and singing of the National Anthem. Students of class 4 sang a Konkani song accompanied by Mr. Neil D’Cruz on the Guitar and Mrs. Reshma Raikar on the tabla. A dance was presented based on a mythological sequence, followed by a patriotic speech by Raj Desai of class 2. Miss. Arya Lotlikar presented a monologue.
Chief Guest Mr. Mohandas Surlekar in his encouraging speech advised the students on various study techniques, discipline and narrated a story on patriotism. Miss Shweta Mopkar of class 7 compered the entire programme. Later sweets were distributed to all the students.

Chess Mania
Students of Vidya Vikas Academy participated in All Goa Chess Championship organised by Manipal Hospital along with Panjim Chess Academy, affiliated to Goa State Chess Academy, at Don Bosco, Panjim on 4th and 5th of December 2010. 
VVA was one of the schools with the highest number of participants. There were 37 students from KG to class 7 who took part in the tournament. On 4th December, the torunament started at 4.30 pm and went on till 8.00 pm in the evening. All students got to play 3 rounds each. On Sunday, 5th December, the tournament started at 9.30 in the morning and finished at 7.00 pm in the evening. They all got to play 3 rounds in the morning, followed by lunch and later in the day 2 rounds. All the players from Vidya Vikas Academy gave a tough fight to their respective opponents.

Mini Sports Festival - Day III
Students of class 3A, 3B, and 3 C participated in the mini sports festival on 9th December 2010 with great enthusiasm.
Parents had come to cheer their kids and excitement was found in abundance, not only on the face of the children but also on the face of teachers and non-participants who specially came to cheer them up.
Some of the games that were held are : making a garland for class 3 A, arranging and collecting the cones for class 2 B and balancing the book for class 3 C.
What matters in the end is the team spirit, participation and encouragement from parents, teachers and their team mates to keep them going towards the victory.

NAKSHTRAzz 2010
The Rotary Club of Margao Midtown presented the Nakshtrazz 2010 School Talent Search on the 4th and 5th of December 2010, respectively at Fr. Agnel Ashram Verna, Salcete, Goa.
Students from our School of class 6 and class 7 participated in the making of a Newspaper and Face Painting Competition on the Theme (East meets West). The participants scored in 40 points in each of these competitions, which were held on 4th December 2010.
The Quiz competition was held on 5th December 2010. Our school secured the 1st place in Quiz scoring 100 points. The school receieved a trophy, a certificate and a medal as well asa token of appreciation to the teacher Mrs. Marina D'Costa, who accompanied co-ordinated with the students.The participants of the competition were as follows: -

Mini Sports Festival - Day II
Students of class 2 A B & C participated in the mini sports with great joy and enthusiasm. The students enjoyed playing with their friends and also learned that team work and co-operation brings joy and success.
Some of the games that took place were Collection of balls for class 2 A, Rolling the ball for clas 2 B, Making a Bouquet for class 2 C and Passing a ball above the head which was a common game played by students of all the divisions of class 2. There was a great encouragement from teh parents, which made the students proud of themselves.

The spectacular Mini-Sports Festival of the Primary began on 6th December 2010. On Day I the pupils of class 1 enthusiastically participated in the games. They were eager to win the race as their parents were seen cheering them to make a sporting effort.
Some of the games that took place were 3 Legged Race for class 1 A, Kangaroo Hop for class 1 B, One Legged Hop and Run for class 1 C, Frog Jump for Class 1 D and Collection of Dumbles was a common game played by students of all the divisions of class 1.
