Elocution Competition Held

Students of class 9 were an appreciate audience at the Elocution Competition held on 29th June 2010. Nine students participated.

The contestants were judged on their expression, content, poise and clarity by Dr. Alan Rodrigues and Mr. Sarvadnya Sambari. The winners were Anjali Mascarenhas (1st place), Tahira Menezes (2nd place) and Sachi Angle (3rd place). Tr. Pamela Torcato co-ordinated the event.

Resource Room Children prepare Bhel - Puri

Resource Room students of Vidya Vikas Academy enthusiastically participated in preparing Bhel-Puri. Such activities enable pupils not only to learn but to take a keen interest in preparing their own meals as well as an interest in catering. Tr. Mamtha supervised and co-ordinated the students.

PIZZA RATES COMPARED

The Consumer Club of Vidya Vikas Academy on 28th June 2010 conducted an activity to create awareness among the students of the Consumer Welfare Club, to comapre the cost and quality of Dominos Pizza and home-made pizza.
The Pizzas were made in school by the students and the taste and quality was compared. The aim of such activities is to create awareness among the students. Tr. Sheetal Kumar and Tr. Karla Quadros supervised the students.

International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking Observed

International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed in our school by the NCC (Naval) Wing. A special assembly was conducted for the pupils of class 8 to 10. Posters and charts were displayed to show the harmful effects of drugs.

Dr. Doreen Dias (Senior Psychiatrist, Hospicio Hospital, Margao and also manages the De-addiction clinic housed at TB Hospital Monte-hill) spoke briefly about the types of drugs and their harmful effects on the individual as well as the community. She also answered queries put forward by our students. Dr. Ira D’Costa (Senior Pediatrician, Hospicio Hospital, Margao) was also present.
Students of class 8 and 9 presented a skit to showcase peer-pressure that leads the youth to use harmful drugs. The event was co-ordinated by Associate NCC Officer (ANO) Mario Vales.

STORY TELLING COMPETITION CONDUCTED

The story telling competition was held for the classes of 1 to 5 of Vidya Vikas Academy on 25th June 2010.

The main aim of the competition was to develop and enhance the art of story-telling and revive the old traditional stories. Such activities enable pupils to become more confident and develop public speaking skills. Tr. Evrida co-ordinated the event.

Reading Activity for Class 4 Held

Mrs. Sandhya Rao, a well known author of story books visited our esteemed school on 24th June 2010. She was acompanied by Sujata and Elaine of Bookworm. Two stories were read to the pupils.
It was an interactive session wherein the pupils actively participated and expressed their views about the stories read. Tr. Clotilda, Tr. Sandra and Tr. Usha of Class 4 A B C respectively co-ordinated the event.

All-India Creative Writing Competition 2010

The students of class 9 and 10 participated in the Albert Barrow Memorial All-India Inter-School Creative Writing Competition 2010. The topics were given to the students on the spot and they wrote an essay on their chosen topic of about a thousand words. The contestants are : Raul De Gouveia Pinto, Erric Clement Mesquita, Sweezel D'Souza, Kavita Mallya, Vaibhavi Prabhudesai, Fritzie Mendenca and Safira Da'Costa. Tr. Pamela was the co-ordinator.

CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP HELD

The Inter-House Chess Championship for U-14 girls and boys was held on Saturday, 19th of June 2010 in the School Hall. The Prize winners of this event are :

VVA celebrates WORLD MUSIC DAY

The staff members along with the students at Vidya Vikas Academy celebrated World Music Day today, 21st of June 2010. A special Assembly was conducted for class 1 to 9. The students of class 4 sung a beautiful song written by Micheal Jackson and sung by various artists. This assembly was co-ordinated by Music Teacher, Mr. Neil D’Cruz.

Students of VVA go for Polls - Elect School Officials

Students of class 6 to 10 of Vidya Vikas Academy went for polling today to elect the school offcials. The elctions were held peacefully as per the directives given by Tr. Nimisha and Sports Director, Mr. Kuttan who were incharge of the elections this year. Vice-Principal Ms. Tania Monteiro ensured that the election process was free and fair.

Fate of Candidates Sealed - Counting on Monday

All the ballot boxes were sealed after the students cast their vote in favour of their candidate. Monday will decide the fate of the candidates as the results will be out by afternoon.

Election Campaign for the post of Asst. Headboy, Asst. Headgirl and House Captains held. Students contesting for elections made motivating speeches. The electorate of class 6 to 10 are going to have a tough time to elect the candidates as all the candidates were smart enough to impress the electorate.

Pre-Primary Section Begins

Parents were seen rushing to drop their children to school on 09th June,2010. While Nursery children were unhappy to leave their parents, Jr. KG & Sr. KG children were excited to be back to school.

President of Vidya Vikas Mandal Shri. R. G. Kare inaugrated the new Computer Centre installed with computers of latest technology, Online Centralised UPS facility and Broadband Internet.
