Good-Bye Class 10 - 2010-2011

Mixed feelings of joy and sadness filled us at the Academy on Saturday, January 29, 2011 as we bid farewell to our Class of 2010. Class 9 had a prayer service, games and entertainment programme for them in the morning. Maison Fernandes and Vaibhavi Prabhudesai were crowned Master & Miss VVA 2010.
The evening social was indeed a touching function which brought back happy memories as parents and pupils expressed their feelings. The programme was enjoyable and brought pupils, their parents and the staff together. Yet another class has come to the end of their academic tryst with the Academy and we wish them well and hope they have imbibed the values we endeavoured to instill in them.

Annual Athletic Meet Held

Friday, January 28, 2011 saw the Nehru Stadium, Fatorda buzzing with activities as the pupils of Vidya Vikas Academy displayed their athletic prowess in the various track and field events.
Director of Physical Education at Chougule Colelge, Shri Devashish Bagchi complimented the pupils on their performance and appreciated the discipline and organisation which resulted in the smooth condct of this event.

Science Exhibition Held

A Science exhibition was held at Vidya Vikas Academy on 26th January 2011. Shri. R. G. Kare inaugrated the exhibition. Students of Classes 1 to 5 participated in this exhibition. Students of Class 1 and Class 2 displayed charts on topics like plants, basic needs - food, clothing and shelter, Water cycle etc. Students of classes 3 to 5 displayed models on topics like pollution, volcano, phototropism, windmills, electrical wiring etc.


It was a good learning experience as the children themselves got involved in making the exhibition a great success. There was a good response and appreciation from the parents and the other staff members. Tr. Sushma co-ordinated the event.

Republic Day Celebrated - Tri-Colour Unfurled

Republic Day was celebrated with great fervour and patriotism at Vidya Vikas Academy. The Management Members, Principal, Staff, Students & Parents attended the function in large numbers. Shri. R. G. Kare, President of Vidya Vikas Mandal was the Chief Guest for the function. The Tri-Colour was unfurled at the hands of the Chief Guest and the National Anthem was sung. The Chief Guest was accompanied by Mr. Vinayak Angle and Principal Mr. Alan Rodrigues.
Mast. Shourya Chaturvedi, a NCC Cadet of Class 9 spoke on the importance of Republic Day. Students of Class 2 presented an outstanding and realistic demonstration of our freedom fighters. Students of Class 3 sang "Sare Jahan Se Acha" followed by a dance presented by students of Class 1.
Shri. R. G Kare in his speech emphasised the importance of freedom, unity and then the Republic India. He also highlighted the importance of education, discipline and respect for parents and teachers. The function concluded with singing of Vande Mataram by Miss. Shruti Parulekar of Class 6. Mrs. Satya Sharma compered while other senior teachers co-ordinated the function.
Sweets were distributed to the pupils and guests after the function.

Resource Room Children excel in Linder Special Olympics

Vidya Vikas Academy encourages inclusive education and has set up a Resource Room and our challenged children excelled at the Linder Special Olympics (Badminton) on January 15th. Winners were Noel Siquera and Tyla Coutinho (Singles), Noel/Valino, Tyla/Andrea and Valino/Tyla (Doubles). Runners Up were : Noel/Andrea (Mixed Doubles and Valino (Singles). Miss Tyla Coutinho was adjudged as the best player of the tournament.

INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION

The world around us is dominated by graphic images. We see them through TV, Film, Magazines, Internet and all kinds of promotional materials. One graphic product that has been around since 1840 is the Postage Stamp. Postage stamp, although small, are big business. Every letter needs one! Famous people and events are celebrated on them. So this year British Council in partnership with Royal British Mail has organised a world wide Stamp Design Contest on the theme “Friendship through Sport and Games”. Ten students from our school are participating in the above contest.
Their drawings have been uploaded on the British Council Connecting Classrooms website and we wish them luck so that they move on to the second stage.
These are the drawings of the students with their names foryou to see their creativity and art work. Mr. Sarvadnya Sambari and Mrs. Hema Cacodcar have co-ordinated along with Ms. Shaefali Lendhay, International School Co-ordinator of our School for British Council for this competition.

Pongal/Makar Sankranti Celebrated

The Pre-Primary children had a special assembly on 13th January to mark the festival of Pongal - A harvest festival of Tamil Nadu. Children enacted the cooking of Pongal, harnessing the decorated cow and ladies dancing around the Pongal Pot.
They also celebrated 'Makar Sakranti'. The famous Kite festival which is celebrated with great joy in Gujrat & Maharashtra by young and old alike. The children were explained the significance of both the festivities.

VVA Students make us proud!

The Cricket Club Association of Margao organised Drawing and Quiz Contest on 18th December 2010 at the MMC Hall, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Stadium, Margao.
The following students secured prizes:
1.Kenneth Da'Silva - Class 7 (Drawing, 2nd Place)
2. Myedica Barreto - Class 5 (Drawing, 3rd Place)
3. Noah Pereira - Class 3 (Drawing, Consolation Prize)
4. Julian D'Costa and Tarun Mascarenhas - Class 7 (Quiz, 2nd Place)
In another competition - 'Peace Poster Contest', organised by Lions Club of Margao on 31st October 2010, the following students of class 7 were winners at the first round of selection and have made it to the District Level comprising the state of Goa and part of Karnataka.
