Eid Mubarak/Happy Ganesh Chaturthi

Festivals from a child’s point of view means fun, feasts, presents, new clothes, dancing, singing, rituals, blessings and happiness.
The Pre-Primary and Primary kids of Vidya Vikas Academy had a special assembly to celebrate the festivals of ‘Eid – ul –Fitr’ and ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’ with great joy and enthusiasm enacting both the tradition and the festivities.
The students participated with great fervor and joy in their hearts to celebrate Eid. The students enacted a small skit expressing the importance of the festival and recited NAMAZ and prayer song devoted to ‘Allah’. Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated for 21 days in the month of September, 1st and 2nd September being the main days of the festival. The students performed Ganesh Pooja and recited Aarti. A student enacted as Lord Ganesh and the story of Lord Ganesh was read out.
The students distributed sweets as a part of this festival. The mood and atmosphere at VVA was very festive and blissful. We at VVA wish you all ‘Eid Mubarak’ and a happy ‘Ganesh Chaturthi’.

Sports Minister visits VVA

Vidya Vikas Academy was honoured to have Shri. Manohar (Babu) Azgaonkar, hon'ble Minister for Sports, Govt. of Goa on 20th August. He was accompanied by Shri. V. P. Rao, IAS Officer, Shri. R. G. Kare, President of Vidya VIkas Mandal, Shri. Ganesh Daivajna, Vice President of Vidya Vikas Mandal, Smt. Sheela Gaunekar, Manager of the School and Dr. Alan Rodrigues, Principal of the School. On his visit, he was very much delighted to see the greenery at the campus and well maintained infrastructure of the school. He also appreciated the efforts put in by the Management to provide the state of the art facilities to the youth.
Earlier in the day he was the Chief Guest at the Founders Day Celebrations of Vidya Vikas Mandal at the G. R. Kare Auditorium.

VVA participates in Spelling Bee Contest

Our senior students did us proud at the Annual Inter-School Spelling Bee Competition, organized by Manovikas School. In category 3 for the Classes VIII – X, which was held on 19th August 2011, Julian D’Costa (8 A) won the first place with a gold medal and a cash prize of Rs. 2000. Jude Sales (9A) stood third, winning a bronze medal and a cash prize of Rs. 1000. Karthika Pai Vernekar (9B) was the third contestant who helped the school to take the second place overall.

In the Category II for classes 6 and 7, which was held on 18th August 2011, Kurt Figueiredo, Keenan Cardozo and Raunak Kamat participated. Though they did not win, they put up a strong fight.
In Category I, Esha Dhuri, Gaven Fernandes and Trisha Naik of Class 5 also participated and stood fourth in this category. They contested against 9 other schools. All the students got a wonderful opportunity to show case their talents. English Teachers, Mrs. Pamela Torcato, Mrs. Carla Quadros and Mrs. Andrea D'Costa accompanied the students.

Pre-Primary celebrates 'Krishna Janmashtami'

The Pre-Primary Students celebrated Janmashtami at a special assembly held with great excitement and fervor on 19th August 2011. The children were very much enthusiastic as the pre-primary consultant Mrs. Enny D’Souza narrated the story of Lord Krishna to them.
Tr. Loreta also discussed the importance of the celebrations. The highlight of the day was the ‘Breaking of the Dahi Handi’ and the children’s participation in singing the famous ‘Govinda Ala re’.

International Youth Day - Special Assemby held

A special assembly was conducted at Vidya Vikas Academy to mark the International Youth Day on 12th August 2011. The importance of this day was highlighted by the students as they presented a skit and put forth the concerns of the Youth and the activities they get involved in.

The students also mentioned that the Youth is the greatest strength in today's global world. The students had a prayer service invoking Gods blessings for the youth to guide them in their life. Tr.Joemila Colaco co-ordinated the assembly.

Resource Room Children visit Caculo Mall

Resource Room children of Vidya Vikas Academy visited Caculo Mall on 9th August 2011 The Marketing Executive Miss. Pranali Shah and Mr.Micky gave our children a tour of the mall. Our children were given the opportunity to play in the “Time Zone” which they enjoyed very much.

Later they were served lunch at the food court. Authorities at Caculo Mall were kind enough to sponsor the food and games. Tr.Mamtha, Tr.Tanula & Tr.Pooja accompanied the students.

Independence Day - A Report

India’s Independence Day was celebrated with great fervour and patriotism at Vidya Vikas Academy on 15th August 2011. The Management Members, Principal, Staff, Students & Parents attended the function in large numbers. Mr. & Mrs. Dilip Kare, were the Chief Guest. The Tri-Colour was unfurled at the hands of Mr. Dilip Kare and the National Anthem was sung. The Chief Guest was accompanied by the Principal and Vice-Principal.
Mrs. Pamela Torcato introduced the Guests, while the students presented a bouquet of flowers to them.
The students put up a wonderful programme. Some of the items were a patriotic song, a group dance, speeches in Hindi and also sang some National songs. Mrs. Grace Kare made an inspiring speech on the occasion. She highlighted some of the thoughts and visions of the former President of India Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, for today’s youth.
An art exhibition was also put up by the students on the theme Nature at Its Best. Students, parents and the Guest were seen appreciating the posters.

Mrs. Satya Sharma who was the co-ordinator for the function compered the function and proposed the vote of thanks. Teacher Rona was co-incharge for the function. Later on, sweets were distributed to the students and parents.
On this day our students also participated in the inter-school Patriotic Singing Competition organised by Lions Club of Margao, at the G.R. Kare Auditorium.
The Pre-Primary section of VVA also had a special assembly on 12th August 2011 to mark India’s Independence Day. Teacher Marisa spoke to the students about the significance of the day, respect for the National Anthem and the National Flag. The children sang patriotic songs and remembered our great National leaders.

Scrabble Workshop Conducted

The Scrabble Workshop was conducted by Mr. Gonsalves and his team of Goa Scrabble Association in association with Vidya Vikas Academy on 13th August 2011 at the G. R. Kare Auditorium. This programme was sponsored by Goa Sudharop chaired by Mr. Ibonio D’Souza. Principal Alan Rodrigues addressed the participating schools on this occasion. President of Vidya Vikas Mandal, Shri. R. G Kare was also present on the occasion.
Four Schools took part in this workshop, namely Manovikas High School, Loyola High School, Fatima Convent High School and the Littles Primary School.
All the teams made an remarkable effort to play this game, however VVA was at the highest ranking. Mrs. Evrida Jacques was the co-ordinator for this event.

Raksha Bandhan Celebrated With Gaiety

The Resource Room children were seen busy making Rakhis in the month of August and finally the day has come. Rakshabandhan - reaffirming the sibling bond where sisters tie a decorated thread, or rakhi on their brothers' wrist, was celebrated on Saturday, 13th August 2011 at Vidya Vikas Academy with much gaiety and colour.
The pre-primary pupils also conducted a special assembly to celebrate the festival, tied Rakhi’s and enjoyed themselves. The children were also explained the importance of the day. The assembly was conducted by Teacher Adlyn Luis.

Workshop on Business Journalism Held

Vidya Vikas Academy in association with Vision Education Society organized a Workshop on Business Journalism for the pupils of class 9 on 06th August, 2011 at the VVA Hall. The Chief Guest for the function was Dr. Hubert Gomes, a renowned dental surgeon in Margao. Other dignitaries present on the occasion were Mr. Savio Coutinho, Ex-Chairperson of Margao Municipal Council, Mrs. Beena Naik, Senior Lecturer, RMS Hr. Sec. School and Ms. Remediana Dias, Chairperson of Vision Education Society.
The function started with an invocation song, lighting of the lamp and followed by a welcome address by the Principal of the School, Dr, Alan Rodrigues. The Chief Guest, Dr. Hubert Gomes in his address to the students said that Journalism is a field where students should focus on as it is a highly paid profession like that of a doctor or an engineer and iterated that it was very challenging profession. Mrs. Beena Naik and Savio Coutinho were also of the same opinion and stressed on freedom to express ones thoughts in a democratic country like India. Mrs. Beena Naik also said that media is a powerful weapon which can bring in the change in today’s youth and the society. Ms. Remediana Dias in her speech spoke about the various programmes conducted by Vision Education Society.
The resource person for the workshop, Mrs. Wendy Pereira who is associated with Times of India and Mr. Adrian, an expert in Business Journalism gave interesting facts about Business Journalism and conducted a group activity. The children found this workshop very interesting, specially the activities in which they showcased their talents through charts and drawings. Mrs. Carla Quadros, Teacher of Vidya Vikas Academy proposed the vote of thanks.
