Dan Dana Dan Goal !

Students of class 10 A and 10 B of Vidya Vikas Academy had an inter class football match at the School Ground on 18th June 2011. In the 1st half the score was 1-0 as Ephran Lucas of class 10 A scored the goal. At the finish of the second half the score was 3 all. Mast. Dillon and Mast. Mc Ralph scored the goals for 10 A while Mast Sanat, Mast Jubin and Mast. Jayden from class 10 B scored one goal each. In the penalty shootout, class 10 A managed to score 3 goals and won the match.

It was an interesting match as teachers and students were seen cheering the teams. Tr. Balika and Sir Siddhu were the co-ordinators while Sir Neil D’Cruz and Sir. Kuttan were the match officials.

Revolution Day Celebrated

Vidya Vikas Academy celebrated Goa Revolution Day on 18th June 2011 to commemorate the day when State's Liberation Struggle against the Portuguese regime had got the boost as freedom fighters under the leadership of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia had given a clarion call to the people of Goa to act against the colonial power.
A student of class 7, Lisa Marie Mascarenhas narrated the Revolution Day story of 18th June 1946. Students of class 8, Shweta Mopkar, Nikita Raposo, Saiesh Karwarkar, Sairaj Phaldesai, Kenneth Da Silva and Jaikeshi Kadam presented an action song depicting the revolutionary change brought in the Goans by Dr. Lohia.
Mast. Graham Alphonsus read a poem written originally in Konkani by Dr. Manoharai Sardesai and translated into English by Jaime De Mello and Sameer Kelekar.
Students of class 6 to 9 attended the programme along with the teachers. Mrs. Reshma Raikar co-ordinated the programme.

PLAYSCHOOL INAUGRATED

Twenty excited tiny tots along with their parents attended the inauguration of the Vidya Vikas Academy Playschool at the hands of Dr. Deepa Correia Afonso e Iyer. The parents were happy with the infrastructure, play equipment and ambience of the classroom.
Dr. Deepa, the Chief Guest spoke eloquently on the occasion and remarked how happy her two sons were at the Academy. Tweety Bird and a clown mingled with the children and the guests.
The efforts of the Class Teachers, Fiona Fernandes and Suela Gonsalves are greatly appreciated. We also acknowledge the work put in by our Pre-Primary Supervisor, Ms. Hilda Pereira e Barbosa and our Primary Consultant, Mrs. Enny D’Souza.

LEADERSHIP SKILLS WORKSHOP

In our endeavour to realize the potential of our pupils from a young age and train them to be leaders in whatever walk of life they choose, we, along with Vision Education Society conducted a workshop on leadership skills for pupils of Class 5.
Shri Eduardo Faleiro, Commissioner for NRI Affairs was the Chief Guest and Shri Ramnath Kare, President of Vidya Vikas Mandal, was the Guest of Honour. Also present at the inaugural function were Mrs. Mily Fernandes, Vice President of V.E.S., and Shri John Aguiar, Director of V.E.S. Firuza Rodrigues and Arya Kare, pupils of Class 5 compered then function.
Shri Neeraj Aguiar, Faculty at NUSI, conducted the workshop.

Special Assembly - World Environment Day

There is beauty in Mother Nature's simplest of creations and we should put our might into preserving such wonders. There is an urgent need to recognise and work for the preservation of our environment. To mark the World Environment Day, students of class 4 conducted a Special Assembly on 10th June 2011 at the VVA Campus. The students came up with beautiful slogans, messages, posters, acts to bring awareness on 'How to protect our environment'. The assembly was concluded with a song with a message to save our beautiful Goan rich heritage. Tr. Clotilda Goes co-ordinated amd trained the students for the assembly.

Distinguished Visitors at the Academy

Vidya Vikas Academy was happy and honoured to have Smt. D. Sudhamani, Education Officer, CBSE Regional Office, Powai, Mumbai and Shri Kannan, Principal, Jawahar Navodaya at the Academy on June 9, 2011.

Our guests were impressed with the beauty and cleanliness of the campus as well as the infrastructure and facilities. They observed that teachers could use more modern teaching methodology and make the teaching-learning process interactive and interesting.

Life Enrichment Seminar Held

Life Enrichment Seminar was held on 8th & 9th June at the VVA School Hall for the students of class 8 and class 9. Fr. Bernadino and Fr. Banzelao of the Don Bosco Animation Centre, Benaulim were the key note speakers.


The speakers focussed on the topics like time management, self respect and respect for the society and healthy relationships. All the pupils were very happy to attend the seminar and found the seminar very interesting and benificial for their future. The class teachers of class 8, 9 along with the Vice - Principal, Mrs. T. Monteiro co-ordinated the seminar.

Academy Re-opens on 6th June

Vidya Vikas Academy (ICSE) will reopen on 06th June 2011 for the academic year 2011-2012.
The timings are as follows :
06th June 2011 - 7.25 hrs to 9.00 hrs
07th June 2011 - 7.25 hrs to 9.00 hrs
The school will function and conduct regular classes from 08th June 2011 between 7.25 hrs to 13.25 hrs.

Julian wins Science Exhibition

State Council of Educational Research and Training, Goa; in collaboration with Goa Science Centre, Miramar; organized a ‘State Level Science Exhibition for INSPIRE Awardees’ on 18th, 19th, and 20th May 2011.
Julian D’Costa, a Standard 7 student of Vidya Vikas Academy, Margao, was adjudged first in the order of merit for his project on ‘Pollen Size and Allergy’.

The top six place winners from this exhibition will go to the National level Exhibition to be held in New Delhi.

“I am absolutely delighted. I had hopes of qualifying for the Nationals but I never expected to come first.” said Julian D’Costa.
